Hey,
Watching this past week unfold in the US certainly has been difficult.
One of the most suitable summaries I've seen was from Nike's social media account: "Don't pretend there's not a problem in America. Don't turn your back on racism. Don't accept innocent lives being taken from us. Don't sit back and be silent. Don't think you can't be part of the change. Let's all be part of the change."
That couldn't be more true. There's no more pretending.
I've spent significant time this week trying to educate myself as much as possible about the deeply troubling issues, underlying causes and how best to play a positive role.
It's my sincerest hope that this is the start of the real change that needs to happen in regards to equality. And I understand now that being a fully informed and active participant in that change, and making sure that the conversation doesn't disappear, is one way to offer real support.
Unsurprisingly, travel has taught me in no uncertain terms that respect and equality should not even be debatable. We all have the right to feel equally protected and safe. So, for an issue that has such a clear right, the progress has simply been inexcusably slow. Let's make sure it speeds up.
